If a spyware removal program won’t work, what are my options?
I recently acquired a spyware application on my PC. It flashes an icon in my tool bar, prompting me to buy removal software. And, it won't let me delete it without a purchase. I've run several full sweeps with WebRoot's Spy Sweeper, and, have run a couple of full Norton virus scans. The icon still appears, even after many restarts. All items were either quarantined, or removed, according to both programs. It's dug in deep. Help, please.
Unfortunately, the really aggressive stuff poses a problem for the vast majority of scanners out there today. Spysweeper is actually one of the better options for protecting your computer. Spy Doctor does a pretty good job as well. It may be worth looking into for you.
If your problem is on a business machine though, there is a better option for you. ItSoftware (http://itSoftwareProducts.com ) has two products whose spyware detection is better than anything else out there (Repelit and Scrubit). The only problem is they don't have personal versions, only corporate.
